Wedding-Worthy Looks from the 2022 Met Gala

Wedding-Worthy Looks from the 2022 Met Gala

The first Monday in May has traditionally been fashion’s biggest night out (aka the Met Gala).  This year, after two years of pandemic-shifted plans, it was back and better than ever. The theme was ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’ and the dress code ‘Gilded Glamour, White Tie’. Attendees were encouraged to interpret late 19th-century fashion through a modern lens. The results were spectacular! And, while there’s always some incredible wedding dress and suit inspiration to be found on the Met Gala red carpet, this year the stars embraced bridal in a big way. (There was even a proposal!) Multiple guests wore white dresses and actual wedding gowns. And, of course, there were also plenty of glittery gold dresses. I can’t wait to see these looks on fashion-forward real brides this season. Here are just a few of my favorite wedding-worth ensembles from the 2022 Met Gala.

Let’s start with Hailey Bieber because I’m officially obsessed with her look and it’s PERFECT for a bride. Hailey chose a white silk slip dress by Saint Laurent with a low back and dramatic slit. She paired it with a statement feather shawl. Not only did the gown look spectacular, but her hair and makeup were the epitome of understated chic. I know plenty of brides will be using images from the event as bridal beauty inspiration when they have their hair and makeup trials!

Alexa Chung never disappoints in the style stakes. She wore a very elegant, slinky silk gown by Christian Siriano in a gorgeous shade of cream that’s a great alternative to classic white for a bride. The magic was all in the draping, with a gathered off-the-shoulder panel creating a unique focal point. Don’t be afraid to opt for a new twist on a classic silhouette on your wedding day!

Actress Eiza González wowed on the 2022 Met Gala red carpet in her spectacular Michael Kors gown. It featured exquisite beading – over 28,000 crystals sewn by hand! I loved the ostrich feathers on the skirt and the matching wrap. (Ostrich feathers are also very much on-trend in bridal at the moment.) Eiza styled the glamorous gown with a sparkling Bulgari necklace and wore her hair in a sleek, shiny chignon. Although the plunging neckline might be a bit too dramatic for many brides, the general look would work perfectly for a wedding or as a glittery after-party gown.

Another star who looked ready to walk down the aisle was Miranda Kerr. The model was resplendent in her stunning white Oscar de la Renta gown. The sweetheart neckline and draped, ruched bodice paired perfectly with an ethereal a-line skirt, for a glamorous modern take on the princess bride. Miranda also chose a sleek chignon (are you seeing a theme here?). However, she opted for a bold scarlet lip which really popped against the white dress.

Forget wedding-inspired fashion – Emma Stone wore one of her actual wedding dresses on the red carpet! This Luis Vuitton feathered mini was the dress she chose for the afterparty for her wedding to Dave McCary, and it’s the perfect inspiration for your second wedding dress too! Strappy white and silver heels and a sweet ballerina bun finished off the look.

Ramla Ali also chose feathers and a ballerina bun for her ensemble, but with a completely different look that was perfect for a bold bride. The Giambattista Valli dress had a statement feather bodice, a voluminous mini, and also a long overskirt. (This kind of convertible fashion is popular in bridal for a reason!) Her pearl-encrusted shoes were also very bridal, but I loved that she paired them with a unique Cartier necklace and bangle instead of a safer choice. Don’t be afraid to have fun with your accessories as a bride – it doesn’t have to be crystals and pearls.

Of course, I have to include the most memorable wedding dress of the night, worn by Kylie Jenner. The gown is a special tribute to Off-White founder Virgil Abloh, featuring a huge ruffled skirt, and draped bodice over a mesh t-shirt. And, while most brides won’t copy her backward baseball cap veil styling, I loved the playfulness of combining classic bridal with street style. Kylie’s second Met Gala dress was also very wedding-worthy (and again, perfect for an after-party).

Of course, a bride doesn’t have to wear a dress at all! Chloë Grace Moretz wore white pants, crop top, and tie underneath a stunning platinum military-style overcoat by Luis Vuitton, with metallic heels and a faux pixie hairdo. It would be a gorgeous option for a bride who prefers to wear trousers but wants something that’s still ornate and unlike anything you’ll wear in everyday life.

Which was your favorite look from the 2022 Met Gala?
