Endless Summer: Party Inspiration

We just don’t want the fun to end! Keep the summer soirees flowing with this punchy theme idea. Do you know that classic movie poster of the color-blocked sunset? You’ve seen it plastered on graphic t-shirts, posters in a beachside burger joint, or even on the wall in your movie theatre. This year celebrates the 60th anniversary of the competitive surfing documentary by Bruce Brown, Endless Summer. Holding onto the last sunsets and beautiful sips of summer, we take this film and iconic poster as inspiration for an Endless Summer party. Here are my ideas to bring it to life!

Color

Have fun with it! Bold, bright, in-your-face. The electric pink and orange of the movie poster make for an elevated mood and lively atmosphere, so lean into that! Your options for summer florals are endless (see what we did there?). So it should be a cinch to find pink and orange petals to punch up your space. Another way to bring in vibrant pops of color is with linen choices. Your napkins and table linens are simple and impactful ways to alter the mood of a space. If you’re feeling rather gutsy, pink linen with an orange napkin would undoubtedly get your theme across. In that case, I’d recommend selecting more neutral decor items like soft white centerpieces, and natural elements like candles or driftwood to avoid a cacophony of colors that clash and appear garish. Perhaps you’d like to flip that–go for vibrant centerpieces and decor with more subtle and oceanic-influenced linens. Balance is the name of the game when choosing a bold theme, like an Endless Summer party.

Ocean Vibes

Movie poster inspiration aside, the film follows two competitive surfers around the world for the most epic waves. For ourĀ Endless Summer-themed party, I’d take a more sophisticated route and opt for the ocean and surfer-style elements. That means natural tones like sea foam, cerulean, ivories, bleached driftwood, and maybe even mother of pearl incorporated in the place settings. Have surfboards waiting in the garage? Repurpose them for bar tops to have themed beverages served up. Find an excuse to decompress along the beach to find beautiful shells to incorporate into your party decor. Summer is all about those long days! Speaking of longer days, check out these tips to make sure your summer makeup stays in place all night long!

Food and Beverages

Keep your cuisine light and sea-focused. Fresh seafood makes for excellent tacos, ceviche, or salads. You’ll want to nourish your guests and delight them with vibrant beverages, too! I love to get creative with the way food is served– family-style settings are great ways to incorporate unique platters like acacia wood salad bowls or sea glass candle votives. Or if your caterer is passing appetizers upon arrival, have them prepared atop banana leaves or garnish cocktails with a pineapple spear.

Every time summer rolls around, I feel so satisfied hosting loved ones. We have a little sun on our cheeks that are sore from laughing over the conversation, fresh food, and refreshing beverages. I may not be surfing on a regular basis, but I sure will ride the wave of an Endless Summer party with this whimsical inspiration!

xoxo,

Mindy
