The Do’s and Don’ts of Hosting a Wedding Shower

Every host-with-the-most knows there are some important do’s and don’ts of hosting a wedding shower. These are the ones to keep in mind to ensure you’re creating a memorable and enjoyable event for all who attend.

DO Coordinate with the Couple

Keep in mind, wedding showers aren’t just for brides these days. Some couples are choosing groom showers or to celebrate with both members of the couple in attendance. Consult with the couple to understand their preferences, guest list, and any specific themes or activities they would like.

DO Send Invitations Early

With all the activities that surround a wedding, it’s imperative to get invitations in the mail as soon as possible. Ensure that invitations are sent well in advance to give guests enough time to RSVP and plan for the event. This will also help you plan for the correct amount of attendees.

DON’T Exclude Key Guests

Make sure to invite all of the bride’s close friends and family members. Avoid leaving out important people from the guest list or the bridal party.

DO Choose a Suitable Venue

Select a venue that suits the bride’s style and the size of the guest list. It could be someone’s home, a restaurant, or another event space.

DON’T Assume Everyone Knows Each Other

If the guest list includes people who may not know each other well, consider icebreaker activities to help everyone feel more comfortable.

DO Plan Fun Activities

Organize games and activities that will entertain the guests and create a joyful atmosphere. Traditional games like “How Well Do You Know the Bride”  and “Couples Trivia” are popular choices. It can also be fun to build a bouquet out of bows as the bride opens presents. It makes a cute prop for photos during the shower!

DON’T Plan Too Many Games

While games can be fun, don’t overdo it. Ensure there is a balance between games and time for guests to mingle and socialize.

DO Consider Dietary Restrictions

Be mindful of the guests’ dietary restrictions when planning the menu. This means including vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options. As far as drinks go, be sure to ask the couple their preference as some may opt for an alcohol-free event.

DO Decorate Thoughtfully

Decorate the venue in a way that complements the theme or colors associated with the wedding. If you need some help coming up with a theme, I’ve got you: 8 Bridal Shower Themes for 2024.

DON’T Forget to Capture Memories

Ensure there is a designated person to capture photos or videos during the event. These memories can be cherished by the bride and guests alike.
