5 Ways to Make Your Save the Date Cards Unique

It’s official, you’ve booked a venue! You’re well on your way to walking down the aisle, but I would recommend you keep the momentum going, and as a next step, get your save the dates in the mail. You’ll want every guest on your list to be able to celebrate with you, and informing them of the date and location months in advance is key to making that happen. A save the date does what its name implies—plus so much more: it establishes your aesthetic, gives guests a glimpse of what’s to come, and even becomes a keepsake to treasure later down the road. You’ll want this important piece of your celebration to be a unique reflection of your style, and I have some tips to help you achieve it. My collaboration with Minted—the marketplace known for wedding essentials, art, and stationery—features tons of inspiration, and I’ll walk you through five ways to make your save the date tell your unique love story.

1. Share engagement photos and a personal note

There’s nothing more you than your image and words. Use them to help your save the date stand out. If you’ve taken engagement photos, a photo format save the date is the perfect way to share them with your guests. Minted save the date cards even let you add a back-of-card design where you can share more photos or write a personal message to guests. Perhaps some of your guests haven’t met your future spouse—a save the date lets you give them a warm introduction before the festivities!

2. Upgrade your card with thick paper and luxe printing

This is one of my favorite ways I see couples making their stationery special. The way a card feels conveys the significance of the event so choose the thickest paper possible. Maybe vintage letterpress is your style. Or gleaming foil is your thing. Either way, this is the time to pull out all the stops.

3. Tailor every detail

Customize your card to your heart’s content—choose your colors, the shape, the message, you name it. You can even take it another step further and match your exact wedding colors. The card’s shape can also really make it stand out. An arch can frame your photo, a wavy border adds a playful feel. Craft a witty message or a traditional one to match your personalities. You can even turn your design into a postcard or a magnet. The possibilities are endless.

4. Make it personal with a custom illustration

Get creative with the space you have. I think it’s fun when couples personalize an envelope liner to excite guests as they open the flap. Some couples have included hand-drawn illustrations of themselves, their pets, or a location that means a lot to them. It’s possible to incorporate little custom details without creating a fully custom suite.

5. Dress your card up with accessories

Embellishing your stationery is a trend I love. I don’t see it going away, because whatever your style, minimalist to maximalist, there are accessories to match. Minted’s new Weddings Marketplace is bursting with stunning details to adorn your cards like hand-painted vellum wraps, ribbons, belly bands, vintage stamps, wax seals—if you can imagine it, it’s there. Set the tone with a few accents that will help you carry your style through from your save the date to the big day.

xoxo,

Mindy
