Your Best First Dance Songs

best-first-dance-songsThinking about what you and your fiancé will dance to for your first dance song? So many small decisions to make throughout the wedding planning process that will be personal and memorable to the two of you. And that includes the music!

So how do you select your song and what are the best first dance songs out there?

Of course, if there’s a song that’s meaningful to the two of you or has had a significant role in your courtship or relationship, that’s an easy choice! Something sentimental is always a winner for a first dance song.

But what if you don’t have a song that fits the mood or the type of music you want to dance to?

I like to know if one person in the couple cares more about an element of the day (like music) than the other and then allow them a bit more creative freedom in that category. So if you’re unsure of what song you want to dance to but your other half has an opinion about it, let them take the lead (no pun intended) and pick for the both of you.

If neither of you know what song is just right for your first dance, consider a short list of the best first dance songs at weddings, past and present.

For something new and modern, I’m obsessed with the new track by Ashlee & Evan called “I Do.” Wedding themed songs are always fun. This pair is so in love and working with them was a dream. I’m so happy to see they’ve released a song about love together. It’s perfect for a wedding day.

A few other current favorites are Ray LaMontagne “You Are The Best Thing” and “All Of Me” by John Legend.

But if vintage romance is more your style, then consider the classics. Etta James “At Last!” is always a crowd favorite (especially if you’ve been together a long time). Van Morrison is always a crowd pleaser. “Crazy Love” or “Into The Mystic” are lovely to dance to.

If a slow song isn’t your speed, don’t stick with tradition. Select an upbeat song, even one you could choreograph for a surprise performance. The more personal your wedding details, the better.

xoxo,
