Every year, color lovers like me wait to see what the Pantone Color Institute will announce as its next Color of the Year. It’s a tradition that’s more than twenty years old now. The COY has gone through a wide variety of shades, from neutrals to brights and everything in between. And no matter what you think about the COY for that year, you can always expect to see it popping up in fashion, interiors, product design, and, of course, weddings! The choice for 2023 is Pantone Viva Magenta, a bold pink-red inspired by “cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family”. According to Pantone, “Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same verve for life and rebellious spirit. It is a color that is audacious, full of wit and inclusive of all.”
One of the best qualities of this vivacious color is that it can be used in so many combinations. So you can really make your color palette your own! For example, if you’re planning a classic white wedding, a few carefully-placed pops of Viva Magenta will make a huge statement. You could use it tonally, pairing it with other pinks and reds to create a cozy, romantic feel. You could use it as an accent color with cool blues or darker neutrals, no matter the season. Or you could go all-in and match it with a bright yellow, for a total fiesta vibe!
One thing’s for sure. If you’re looking for a way to make your wedding stand out from the crowd, incorporating Pantone Viva Magenta into your wedding design is a great way to do it. This vibrant hue is sure to brighten up a big day in a big way! Here are five unique ideas for how to use Pantone Viva Magenta in your wedding.
Statement bridal bouquet. One of the best ways to introduce any color into your wedding is with flowers. That’s certainly true of Viva Magenta! Your florist can introduce you to a huge choice of blooms in this shade, from roses and dahlias to bougainvillea and amaranthus. Using them at your ceremony or on your tables will add depth to the arrangements. But if you prefer to keep things more classic, one place you can really splash out on color is in the bridal bouquet. It’ll draw all eyes to you as you walk down the aisle!
Colorful wedding stationery. Your wedding stationery is another place you can introduce Pantone Viva Magenta with ease. Choosing this daring shade will immediately set the tone for a wedding to be remembered! You don’t have to use magenta throughout your invitation suite either. Just a little touch, such as magenta envelope liners, calligraphy ink, or wax seals will be an intriguing premise. It also makes for a nice contemporary twist on more traditional reds or pinks, which will make your stationery design feel both modern and timeless.
Patterned linens. If you want to add Pantone Viva Magenta to your tables, then patterned linens are a great way to do it. Using patterns will break up this bold shade but still create a unique look. There are so many options for patterned linens, depending on your style and season. Florals are always a good option, but don’t be afraid to push the boundaries and explore other ideas. Or, if you like the idea of patterns but would prefer to keep your linens simple, why not choose patterned plates with magenta pops as an accent piece? We’ll be seeing patterned plates all over the place this year, so this is a great way to get on the trend.
Magenta bridal style. Of course, you could wear a magenta wedding dress or suit and look absolutely fabulous, but this will be a little too much for most brides. That doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate Pantone Viva Magenta into your look! For example, how about a bold magenta lip? Or a magenta manicure? Either of these will complement a classic bridal style but still have a little extra joie de vivre.
Bold blazers. If the groom likes to have a little fun with fashion, why not have him wear a magenta suit or blazer? It’s actually a very flattering color on most skin tones and can work for both summer or winter weddings. Plus, because magenta pairs so well with white tones, it’ll photograph beautifully next to your dress.
What do you think about 2023’s Color of the Year? Will you be incorporating Pantone Viva Magenta into your wedding day?
