Things to Do After Getting Engaged

So, you’re engaged? First of all, congratulations! You are embarking on a meaningful journey to one of the most important days in your life and I want to take a moment to help you get started. Here are some things to do after getting engaged.

Celebrate!

Don’t rush to get everything done immediately; you don’t need to have your wedding planned in a month. Enjoy your engagement, even briefly, before you plan your big day. Let yourself bask in the excitement and get yourself ready for the journey ahead!

Set Your Priorities – size, style, location, feel

As is often true for most events you’ll want to plan the priorities first. These basics will be instrumental to making more detailed decisions down the line, so get your notebook and pen ready. As always, work together on this to make sure both of you are on the same page!

Ask Yourself This

What size wedding do you want? Is there a maximum number of guests?

What style of wedding do you picture? Your options are endless- from a boho-chic beachfront afternoon to a whimsical garden party.

Do you have a dream location? Narrow this down slowly if you didn’t start out with your heart already set on a place. Pick a broad idea like a field, garden, beach, etc. Then, get into the details. Choose a country. Then, a city. And finally, the perfect venue!

Timeline

Your timeline is bound to coincide a bit with your location because securing a spot can often depend on availability. Ask yourself what season you want your wedding in. From there, narrow it down to a specific month (or even a few) to give yourself a better chance at booking your dream venue.

If your heart is set on a season and venue, don’t be scared to push your wedding date. You’re engaged and on the path to your perfect wedding day. Enjoy it!

Budget and a Guest List

Next on the list of “to-dos” is a budget and guest list. This part is important because knowing your budget can help you plan within the allotted price.

Venue and Vendors

Book your venue and vendors first in your list of details because these are the aspects of your big day that rely on availability. The sooner you set a date with your venue, the more likely you are to secure spots with the vendors you want!

The Details

Save-the-Dates: Now that you know your guests, date and location, it’s time to inform people. You want to give everyone ample time to make plans.

Attire: Now is the time for the “say yes to the dress” moment (or gown alternative if a gown just isn’t your thing). But attire also means thinking about bridesmaids and groomsmen’s outfits and attire for anyone else involved in your wedding day.

Additional Events: Do you want to have multiple days and events for your wedding? Start considering your rehearsal dinner, an after-party, or any other event you wish to include.

Hire a Wedding Planner: All of this may seem overwhelming, but don’t freak out! If you’re getting into the details and find that you don’t have the time for all of it, consider hiring a wedding planner. We’re here to make all of the stress go away so all you have to worry about is enjoying the journey.

The list of things to do is long. First, focus on you! Celebrate your engagement and be in the moment with the person you love most. For some wedding day inspiration to get started, head over to my Instagram.
